Why are acoustics important in a restaurant?
If diners are shouting to be heard, they’re not relaxing. With carefully considered acoustic design, conversations feel natural again. Diners can hear each other. Staff can communicate clearly without raising their voices. That’s what good acoustic treatment does.
Hard surfaces create a hard sell. Concrete, glass, exposed brick and bare ceilings – the look everyone wants, but with the echo nobody can stand. Sound bounces, builds, and before long every table is trying to talk over each the next one.
For Ottolenghi Richmond, Resonics solved this exact problem.
The before and after speaks for itself.
Why choose Resonics for your Restaurant?
We know hospitality
Restaurants and bars are loud in a specific way: hard floors, glass, open kitchens and bare ceilings, all feeding the cycle where guests shout to be heard and the room only gets louder. Calming a buzzy bar isn’t the same as a fine-dining room — it takes the right mix of ceiling absorption, wall treatment and acoustic features. We’ve done hundreds of them.
We work around your service
You can’t shut for a fortnight, and we don’t expect you to. We install overnight, on closed days, or one zone at a time. A single area is often a half-day; a full venue is usually two to five days.
We fit in with your fit-out
Most of our work happens inside a wider restaurant or bar fit-out, alongside your designer and main contractor. We provide CAD drawings ready to drop into the design pack, attend site meetings, and sequence our work around the main programme. Our team is CSCS, SSSTS and SMSTS accredited.
Designed to look good, not utilitarian
In hospitality the room is the brand, so the acoustics can’t look like an afterthought. We specify from design-led brands (Autex, BAUX, Impact Acoustic, De Vorm, Hunter Douglas, Tenso), print panels with your branding or artwork, and use stretched fabric systems that read as architecture when you want the treatment invisible.
Measured, not guessed
We design to a target reverberation time, so the room feels calm and conversation flows even at full covers. You get the numbers up front in our proposal — the target we’re working to and what it takes to hit it — and post-install testing is available on larger projects to prove the result.
Trusted across the industry
We work directly with hospitality architects, design-and-build contractors and directly with operators such as Ottolenghi & Pizza Express. Whether you need a full turnkey install or just supply, we slot in at the right level.

Hawick South ChurchTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. smart-looking panels that clearly have a good impact on the RRT60. Nigel ColeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve just had acoustic panels installed in our large meeting room by Resonics, and the result is excellent. The installation was completed to a very high standard—clean, precise, and professionally finished—and the panels look great. The improvement in acoustics is immediately noticeable, with no echo and a clear, comfortable environment for both table discussions and smart board use. The entire process, from start to finish, was well coordinated by Charlie and Jasper. I would highly recommend Resonics to anyone looking to improve acoustics in their workspace. Professional and experienced; The team were excellent throughout the installation, and the results should now be enjoyed by our Fellows, Students, and Community. Tony ButlerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hi Joe and Arif, Many thanks for an excellent job. The team were very professional and took care to avoid all the heaters and lights in the roof space. They left on time leaving the hall clean and tidy I was amazed that they completed the work in a day. Thanks, Tony Charles AtkinsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. On behalf of the Elsing Village Hall Committee I am writing to Resonics now that we have had some early feedback from users of our now noise-controlled Village Hall. The consensus is positive and there have been several ‘Wows’, not least over the dramatic appearance of the full array of new ceiling panels. This all goes to reflect the efficient work done by Resonics, particularly its planning and construction people, in advising, costing and then delivering the goods. Overall, the exercise has gone well, full external funding has been achieved and a cost effective and purpose-made end result has been seamlessly achieved. Randell Design GroupTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We researched Resonics as a partner to help deliver some acoustic solutions for a large new contemporary home designed by our talented team of architects and interior designers here at Randell Design Group. The two main areas were above the bespoke dining room table and in the client’s large atrium styled entrance hall. Joey Andraos took the lead in helping us to identify the correct solutions in both areas and Jasper Hill Baldwin completed the measurements on site. Their solution was delivered by their expert installation team on time with no deviation on costs to their original quote. The whole team were helpful, punctual and time efficient. Our client is delighted by the solutions installed and we would thoroughly recommend Resonics as a future partner to help with acoustic solutions in high-end residential homes. Rosy WalkerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I received some of the best service from Resonics that I have ever had. From the first phone call to the installation of the sound proofing panels in my large outside pavilion, the attention I received, the first rate communication and updates, could not have been bettered. It is become rarer to receive such excellent service, but Resonics earns it’s status as an outstanding example of the customer being given the full attention of the provider. I could not be happier with the result. I wish to thank everyone from the team whose joy in providing their product, was palpable from the outset. Well done darlings. britishcomposersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. While penning a true-to-form 1930's Art Deco cinema for a private residence, I came across this operation with a specific intended form of panelling in mind that served not only as an acoustic deadener, but also as an aesthetic 'enabler' that would successfully lend itself toward the archetypical cinema interiors' criteria, as deployed back in the golden age of moderne Deco designs. Arif and the team at Resonics were efficient and on-point with my enquiry, the order and the final installation. While not cheap, the product is exactly what was wanted and looks fantastic. Rob LodgeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently used Resonics for the installation of acoustic panels in a new arts centre we've just opened. From start to finish, the experience was excellent — clear communication throughout, a smooth and professional installation process, and a high-quality end result. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. Rob Lodge, Director of Estates & Facilities, Prior's Court Foundation.
How to reduce noise in restaurants
Many modern restaurants prioritise style over sound control, featuring minimalist designs with bare tables and hard floors, open-plan layouts with high ceilings and exposed surfaces.
With thoughtful design adjustments, acoustic treatments can significantly reduce noise levels while preserving the lively energy of the space, improving diner comfort and the overall experience.

FAQs & tips for selecting the right Restaurant Acoustics
Sound plays a big role in how people experience a meal. Poor acoustics make it difficult to hold conversations, causing discomfort and reducing the overall dining experience.
Most modern restaurants feature hard surfaces like glass, concrete, and wood. These reflect sound instead of absorbing it, leading to excessive noise and echo when the space gets busy.
High noise levels can make customers leave sooner, limit repeat visits, and cause fatigue for staff. Good acoustics create a calmer, more welcoming atmosphere and improve communication.
Resonics install discreet sound-absorbing panels, ceiling rafts, and baffles that reduce echo and noise build-up while complementing the restaurant’s design and lighting.
Absolutely. Acoustic panels come in a wide range of fabrics, colours, and custom designs — including artwork or branding — making them part of the aesthetic, not a distraction.
No — the goal is balance. Acoustic treatment doesn’t remove all background buzz but reduces harsh reflections and makes speech clearer without losing atmosphere.
Most restaurant projects can be completed in one or two days. Resonics can install outside of service hours to avoid disrupting business.
While not strictly regulated like schools, restaurants must comply with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) workplace noise guidelines to protect staff hearing. Acoustics also play a key role in WELL and BREEAM comfort standards.
No — our panels are made from materials that are safe, fire-rated, and easy to clean, suitable for food-service environments.
Costs depend on the restaurant’s size and design but start from round £5000. Resonics provides free acoustic surveys and tailored proposals to achieve optimal comfort within budget.
