The problem: Ottolenghi Richmond had everything going for it: beautiful interiors, exceptional food and a reputation built on quality. But diners were struggling to hold a conversation with the person sitting opposite them. Staff were raising their voices just to take orders during busy service. And the feedback was starting to reflect it. A restaurant earning five stars across the board for food and service was being pulled down to three or four stars because of the noise.
Our solution
We worked closely with the team at Ottolenghi Richmond to understand how the space was being used before proposing a treatment plan.
The challenge in hospitality settings is always balance. Restaurants aren’t meant to be silent. There’s life and energy to preserve. The goal isn’t to remove noise, it’s to control how sound moves through a space so that conversation becomes easy again.
SilentSpace acoustic rafts were suspended from the ceiling, positioned to intercept sound at the point where it builds most in a busy restaurant.
Around the perimeter of the room, Tenso stretched fabric wall panels were installed to reduce reflections that make speech difficult to follow in hard-surfaced dining spaces.
Together, the two systems work to reduce reverberation without deadening the space.
The Outcome
The ambient noise that had filled the room is still there but it is no longer overwhelming.
Conversations feel natural again. Diners can hear each other. Staff can communicate clearly without raising their voices. That’s what good acoustic treatment does.
