Oakmoor Secondary School
The problem: A well-designed acoustic environment is vital in educational environments. Schools must meet strict sound-level limits set out in the UK’s Building Bulletin 93 (BB93) regulations. In classrooms, it's common to struggle with issues like echo, high background noise and poor speech clarity. These challenges make it harder for students to concentrate and for teachers to communicate clearly.
Our solution
Effective acoustic treatment is key to reducing classroom noise. At Oakmoor Secondary School, Resonics installed 50mm Tenso Wall systems in a continuous strip along key wall areas, creating a clean, seamless finish. The system delivers Class A sound absorption, helping to control reverberation and minimise background noise.
To further enhance performance, Autex Composition wallcovering was applied as the fabric finish. This material not only improves acoustic absorption but also provides a durable, pinnable, self-healing surface, ideal for educational spaces. Panel placement was carefully considered to ensure acoustic coverage met the requirements of BB93, without compromising the classroom’s design.
The Outcome
The result is a comfortable, functional learning space that enhances communication and supports effective teaching and learning.
The introduction of wall panels has created a more balanced and controlled sound environment, allowing speech to carry clearly across the room. Background noise from student activity is better managed, supporting focused work and collaboration.
