Butlin’s Leisure Centre
The problem: After twenty years in operation, Butlin’s resort in Bognor Regis underwent a major revamp led by Kier Construction. A key part of the project was improving the acoustics in the resort’s main splash pool. Swimming pool environments pose unique acoustic challenges—excessive reverberation can make announcements unclear, putting both swimmers and guests at risk if safety directions are not easily heard.
Our solution
Resonics designed and installed a bespoke acoustic system tailored to the pool’s needs. Using Autex Cube, a flexible material that allows for custom cutting, we created an undulating ceiling that mimics the movement of waves. Built in a repeating baffle formation, the design seamlessly integrated with the existing ceiling services while providing effective sound absorption. To complement this, we also constructed a striking acoustic spiral feature in the pool’s cafeteria, combining function with visual impact.

The Outcome
The installation delivered a comprehensive acoustic solution that significantly improved sound clarity and reduced reverberation across the pool area.
The wave-like ceiling and cafeteria spiral not only enhanced the acoustics but also added a distinctive design element, contributing to the overall transformation of the resort.
