Beam Hertford Theatre

The problem: BEAM Hertford Theatre required a carefully considered acoustic strategy to balance functionality with aesthetics. The venue featured a mix of lively, high-traffic areas, such as a bar and café, alongside a main theatre designed for performances and events. Each space posed unique challenges: the bar needed solutions to manage background noise without compromising design, while the theatre demanded precise acoustic control to ensure clarity and immersion for audiences.

Our solution

Resonics were engaged to install bespoke Autex products, tailored to each environment.
In the bar and café area, Autex Lanes were integrated into the ceiling, delivering both sound absorption and a refined, linear architectural finish. In the main theatre, the same Lanes were mounted on the walls, minimising reverberation and enhancing clarity to foster a more immersive audience experience.
To further refine the space, Autex Cube Panels were fitted to the soffit, effectively controlling sound reflections while contributing a polished, contemporary look. These solutions combined technical performance with thoughtful design, elevating both the functionality and aesthetics of the venue.
Resonics supported the project throughout, ensuring delivery matched the design vision.

The Outcome

The result is a striking, acoustically optimised venue where design and performance work in harmony.

The café and bar now offer a comfortable, well-managed sound environment, while the theatre delivers immersive, high-quality acoustics for performances. Through close collaboration, tailored solutions, and rigorous attention to detail, the project showcases how acoustic design can both solve functional challenges and enhance architectural impact.
