King's College, London
The problem: King’s College London, one of the UK’s leading public research universities and a founding member of the University of London, recently refurbished one of its main common areas. As a high-traffic, multi-use space, it required an acoustic upgrade to improve comfort, reduce noise build-up, and support a more productive atmosphere for students and staff.
Our solution
To meet both the performance and aesthetic requirements of the project, Resonics installed a range of Autex products, selected for their sound absorption capabilities, durability and design flexibility.
Autex Cube Panels are a lightweight, semi-rigid acoustic material that can be easily customised. For this space, the panels were precision-cut into hexagonal shapes, creating a dynamic visual feature while delivering effective sound control across the common area.
Autex Frontier Ceiling Baffles
For the ceiling, Resonics installed Autex Frontier Ceiling Baffles — a suspended acoustic system offering high-performance absorption with a clean, contemporary appearance. Frontier Baffles can be configured in countless arrangements, making them ideal for architectural environments that demand both flexibility and visual impact.
Resonics handled the full installation of all acoustic products, ensuring seamless integration with the newly refurbished interior.
The Outcome
The acoustic treatments have transformed the common area into a more comfortable and functional environment that supports effective learning and clear communication.
- Significant reduction in overall noise levels.
- Improved clarity and reduced reverberation throughout the space.
- A design-led acoustic treatment that enhances the aesthetic of the refurbished interior.
- Durable, high-performance materials suitable for long-term use in a busy university setting.
