Project Description

A tall ceiling due to a pitched roof and hard plasterboard walls with little soft furnishings in this small church was making a noisy environment for churchgoers. The audio-visual equipment used in the church was being compromised due to the poor sound environment.

To negate the high ceiling we installed Class A acoustic absorbers covering the majority of the church’s ceiling.

Additional absorption was added to the side walls using Ecophon’s Akusto wall panel range.  The idea was to target reflections bouncing between the diametrically oppossing.

By covering such a large surface area within the church, we reduced the reverberation time in the space to below one second – a significant improvement.

Feedback has been positive, with sermons using audio-visual equipment being more intelligible and with churchgoers reporting auditory comfort.
