The Problem

Isledon is a group of related companies delivering youth services, based primarily in Islington, North London. Isledon run a number of youth hubs throughout London, including ‘Lift’ in Angel –  a “healthy living hub for young people”. The space consists of a number of halls and meeting rooms.

Reconis was contacted to restore acoustic comfort to the rooms, which were suffering from excessive echo. This was owed largely to an emphasis of hard, reverberant surfaces and little to no absorptive materials in each space.

The Solution

Resonics was brought in to provide treatment’s to the Yellow Hall, Blue Hall and The Chapel room. Each of these spaces are available for hire and have large capacities of up to 130 people. Therefore, the rooms must meet the users’ requirements, which are inevitably varied and include speeches, performances, parties and training.

We installed Class A acoustic absorbers to the ceiling of each room, using different geometrical shapes to match the unique layout of each ceiling.

The Result

Feedback from the rooms’ users has been positive, with initial reports remarking on a more comfortable aural environment. In particular, feedback has focused on a new clarity of audio-visual equipment used in each room.
