The Problem

We are often contacted to deal with problems of excessive noise and poor speech clarity in open plan offices. The combination of a loud working environment mixed with a lack of sound absorptive surfaces in large spaces can often be acoustically problematic. Following an acoustic survey at Deloitte Digital’s Clerkenwell office in London, we found the space was suffering from exactly these problems.

The large room was very noisy when full of staff working and this combined with hard floors and ceilings made for a loud, acoustically uncomfortable workplace..

The Solution

Our proposed solution involved designing and installing a number of high performing sound absorbing ceiling panels that would complement the modern, minimalist décor of the office.

Over the course of two weekends – to avoid any disruption to the working office in the week – we installed 60 Ecophon Solo ceiling panels in in white frost. The panels were installed as they came or cut to size around walls and windows. The hanging feature allowed for light fittings and services to remain untouched.

The Result

The final result was an acoustic solution that made Deloitte Digital’s open plan office look and sound better.

Installing unobtrusive yet acoustically efficient ceiling panels allowed the room to retain its look and feel yet provide around 90% sound absorption – lessening the reverberation in the room and making the acoustic environment a lot more comfortable.
