Across the 500+ acoustic panel and install projects that Resonics complete each year, there are often certain ones which stand out from the rest. Our estimating team works closely with both architects, designers and the top acoustic brands across the world to create truly unique and bespoke acoustic systems, funky panel designs and acoustically treat tricky spaces. The team also work with clients to design acoustic panel systems from scratch depending on the end customers functional and visual requirements for the project.

Take a quick look at some of our favourite custom projects this year.

Top 3 Bespoke Projects 2021

1. Custom ‘Herringbone’ style Autex Cube – fixed to ceiling

The Cube panel from Autex is an extremely flexible semi rigid product made from recycled plastic plastic bottles. Cube comes just as a flat panel, but is completely customisable using laser cutting, waterjet engraving, printing and moulding. In this case, we were working on a new hotel project in Shoreditch, London. The cube panels were CNC cut into a herringbone tile effect, and were installed below the existing MF framed ceilings. Our installers did a fantastic job on site working around existing wiring for lighting and also creating 6 access hatches on site.

2. Private Studio – West London

Resonics were contacted to design and complete a total acoustic buildout for this private studio in West London. The space is to be used for a variety of performing arts and other recorded events which require excellent acoustics and a sleek and stylish visual design.

Our design and estimating team worked with the owner of the studio, who wanted to integrate a timber feature to the space to add warmth but acoustics were the main priority. A combination of products were chosen, including Lignosi Eco-Sound slatted wood panels and FabricWall. On either end of the building, Lignosi slatted panels were expertly cut on site by the installation team to ensure a perfect meeting with the existing lines of the pitched roof. Panels were installed with an extra 25mm acoustic backing to bring the panels up to Class A acoustic absorption.

On the flat side walls, and also the remaining ceilings were covered with 50mm FabricWall with Camira Synergy fabric chosen. The result is a very high performing acoustic space that looks great.

3. Curved Timber Ceiling – Bespoke Swimming Pool

Another amazing project that we completed in 2021 was this indoor swimming pool ceiling in a luxury London residence. The product used was a solid timber ceiling system from Hunter Douglas ‘Solid Wood Grill’ which is a curved ceiling suspended from the soffit. The suspension system is designed for highly corrosive environments (such as an indoor swimming pool), and the European Stained Pine is treated with a transparent varnish on all sides to prevent any moisture absorption.
